Lots of posts about our new house.  Have we been doing any school?  Yes, in between projects and being sick.  This fall/winter has been very hard on our house.  We've had flu, colds, mono, strep, stomach viruses, and all sort of not feel goods. We did start the next level on Teaching Textbooks and are about to start a poetry unit in writing.  We are moving along, it just feels like it's not sometimes.  I have reverted to my old habit of writing down on a calendar everything we are doing each day - it helps me see that between house projects, running to town, and doctor appointments, we are getting school work done.  It was something I implemented when we built our house in Katy and I was pregnant with number 3.  Sometimes, I just need the visual reminder that we are doing something besides keeping Exxon in business. Editors note: This post will start with our 1st pictures of the main hallways and stairs will them progress through our unpacking/remodeling pictures.  Rather than wait until it's all done, I've decided to give periodic progress reports.  There's other areas that don't really fit in the other categories I selected - we have the front hall, the front door and hallway, and several closets.  There's also the stairway.   October 2013: In these areas, all we've done so far is replaced the carpet.  It sure does smell nice, look prettier, and feels wonderful on bare feet - something we didn't try on the old stuff, I can only imagine it didn't feel good. January 2014:  We've installed some doors on the AC/Heat closet and put the grates back up for the air returns.  We still have a few doors left to put up and lots of "stuff" to put away. And, we added lights to the stairway....

Editors note: This post will start with our 1st pictures of the bedrooms and will them progress through our unpacking/remodeling pictures.  Rather than wait until it's all done, I've decided to give periodic progress reports.  The upstairs bedrooms ranged from plain to bright.  As with most of the other rooms, the doors were missing or were broken.     October 2013: The biggest thing we've done to these rooms is paint them.  The girls couldn't decided on colors.  One wanted a pink room but wanted to share with the girl who wanted the blue room.  One wanted a yellow room and didn't care who she shared with.  So Mama decided to make both rooms a pretty purple.   The boys room, we went with a blue and we've already changed the fan. January 2014:  No new pictures.  We've done a little organizing and putting up.  Not much changes since October.

Editors note: This post will start with our 1st pictures of the bathrooms and will them progress through our unpacking/remodeling pictures.  Rather than wait until it's all done, I've decided to give periodic progress reports.  There are 2 1/2 baths in this house.  A full bath connected to the master; a 1/2 bath next to the laundry room; and a full bath upstairs.  Several of the baths appear to have water damage either on the ceiling or on the floor.  So far as we can tell, the leaks have been fixed, the damage was just never repaired.  January 2014:  The downstairs 2nd bath is still not painted.  We did change out the light fixture though.  The kids bath upstairs is almost finished.  We have touch up and fixtures to install.

Editors note: This post will start with our 1st pictures of the gameroom and will them progress through our unpacking/remodeling pictures.  Rather than wait until it's all done, I've decided to give periodic progress reports.  The upstairs gameroom or living area is HUGE!  The fan didn't work either and the doors to the deck aren't too secure, although they don't have holes in the bottom to get the bugs in.  At some point, they will need to be replaced.  It's just not a 1st thing replacement.  One end of the room has a huge closet entirely filled with built-in shelves.  October 2013: We've painted this room the same brown tone as the downstairs and we again changed the ceiling fan.  One this one, the switches were shorted out.  However, we didn't want to keep this one as it has been used as a bird perch. Editors note: This post will start with our 1st pictures of the laundry room and will them progress through our unpacking/remodeling pictures.  Rather than wait until it's all done, I've decided to give periodic progress reports.  The laundry room is it's own separate room.  It doesn't have a sink, although it's next door to a bathroom so we could put one in eventually.  It has it's own closet and a folding table and cabinet.  There's even a built in ironing board area, just no iron board. October 2013 update: I've painted the laundry room the same color as the pantry, it's a pale pale pink.  We are slowly working on getting the baseboards and trip painted white.  We've had several delays because it's also serving as the litter box room for 1st our big tom named Tux, who is normally an outside cat, and now for a 6 week old kitten named Minnie.  You thought it was hard to paint with kids around, have you tried it with cats, esp...

Editors note: This post will start with our 1st pictures of the living room and will them progress through our unpacking/remodeling pictures.  Rather than wait until it's all done, I've decided to give periodic progress reports.  The master was painted already when we moved in.  It seems to be in the best condition.  We used it for storing everything until we were somewhat ready to put it up. The master bath is a different story.  At least the toilet worked and it had a door.  The tub leaked at the whirlpool motor and the motor was unplugged.  I'm guessing because it leaks.  We've found the parts we need to fix the leak - $3.00 worth of parts and $16.00 in shipping.  We're waiting until our next trip to a city with a good plumbing supply house.
