Before we get to the next birthday, I guess I should blog about the last two birthdays.  The first was for N's  3rd birthday.  He favorite movies are Cars and Planes.  We decided that he would rather play with a Dusty instead of eating a fondant Dusty, so we had already purchased a Dusty toy for a cake topper.  Unfortunately,   Craig was in the hospital with his high BP the few days before N's  birthday so we didn't get to make a cake.  However, N  doesn't like cake and prefers ice cream so we just bought him an ice cream cake from DQ and put Dusty on top.  He's happy and he eats it!  Win both ways!   The next birthday had a Frozen theme and was for H's  6th birthday!  We had homemade pizza's for lunch and an ice mountain for a cake.  Again, we opted for play toys instead of fondant for the toppers.  We also had a blue chocolate fountain with fruit which we didn't get a picture of.   ...

Occasionally the question will pop up on homeschooling boards about taking days off when the local public schools are cancelled for most often ice.  Usually our answer is No, why take the day off - it's too cold to be outside, the ice isn't something you can play in and you can't go anywhere because it's too dangerous to drive?  That question is often followed with questions about taking a summer break.  Again, everyone's inside because it's so hot so why take the day off? That's my normal answer since we live in North TX where winters are cold and icy and the summers are hot.  After yesterday, I think I should modify my answer.  We don't take ICE days but we do take SNOW days!  What are snow days?  The rare days (4th time most snowfall in recorded history) when it actually snows instead of ices; the days when you can have real snow ball fights and you can build real snowmen.  

Late last year, Craig mentioned in one of his phone calls to Lupie (his step-mother; AKA Grandma) that he was looking into getting a tractor, a real tractor - not a garden tractor that you can buy from Sears, Lowes, or Home Depot.  She said that the one Craig's dad drove for a long time was just sitting in her pasture collecting rust.  So, we've worked out a deal to acquire the tractor.  It's way more tractor than 6 acres needs, but the price is right..... So, we have a new tractor.   While the boys were working on the tractor, H was having fun posing in front of the tire.   There was also some visiting with Lupie's horses while trying to get the tractor started.
