On Saturday, we stopped in North Platte to visit the Nebraska home of Buffalo Bill Cody.  We lucked out in that it was the end of season weekend and they had demonstrators and crafts and activities going on.  We rode in a wagon with Buffalo Bill, met a mountain man, and made dolls and quilt squares.     This was the spring house - it was a cellar that had a spring running into it so that stored items would be kept cold.  It also served as a storm cellar. The mountain man demonstrated a flint lock rifle (very loud) and a trap.  He allowed Z  the opportunity to try and open the trap.  He couldn't do it.  The mountain man said that it was a two handed job and that any one armed man couldn't operate.  He said it wasn't uncommon for men to lose a limb from the traps.  Looking out from the barn toward the house and toward the pasture/windmill There was also a tractor display.  I'm pr...

We started our eclipse trip on Thursday evening.  We left town about 6:00pm and drove as far as we could - Norman, OK.  We decided to boon-dock in the Wal-mart parking lot because it was so late and we wanted an early start. Friday morning, we started bright and early.  Our destination: Gothenburg, Nebraska.  Interesting things we learned on our trip: Kansas is filled with corn field and interstates with tolls.  The corn scenery is so repetitive that we missed the sign coming into Nebraska because we grew tired of looking at the corn. Nebraska was interesting.  We saw a bridge spanning the high way, a beautifully carved train on a downtown building, and we saw "Dusty" out dusting the crops. We made it to Gothenburg with enough time to visit the Pony Express Museum.  The museum and old station is located in one of the town parks.  It is surrounded by a sampling of trees and has a playground.     One tree ...
