Happy Birthday C We started the morning off by opening 1 present - the Blu-Ray and DVD "Tangled" movie - so they could watch in the car while we drove to McKinney.    When we got home this afternoon, we finished decorating the strawberry cake and had a party - complete with mini cast iron frying pans filled with ice cream!  The girls LOVED it!! Then, C finished opening her presents - a princess puzzle, 2 Tangled level 1 and 2 learning to read books, and a fairy color page.  Very exciting day!!! We also had to redress H because she enjoyed the ice cream and cake soooooo much.  So, we put her in her new shirt from the Heard Museum - how very appropriate! Last week, I gave the girls a placement spelling test and one of the words was 'trouble'.  A repeated it several times as she spelled it.  Well, H comes running into the room and announces "I not trouble, I JoJo!"  Love it!!!

We spent the day at the Heard Museum in McKinney.  I found a deal on groupon a while back for a $35 family membership.  We activiated our membership today.  It was fun trip and they kids all said they wanted to come on their birthdays! We did do some school work - the girls had some rock, flower, and tree detectives sheets to fill out.  They had done the flowers and trees for our house.  However, since we have only a few flowers because very little grows in the shade, we decided to take advantage of a different garden.  We hiked one of the trails and visited the animals.  Overall a very fun trip!  We didn't get to see everything, so a membership is going to work out well. We also reinforced some Revelation - we discovered what Chyrsoprase looks like!  S was very excited about that.  In the museum portion, the kids were also able to perfect their digging skills while searching for the dinosaur bones in the sandpit! ...

This weekend, we attended the Bible Bowl competition portion of the North Texas Leadership Training for Christ ( http://www.ntltc.org/ ).  This year, the book was Revelation.  S answered all 75 of her questions correctly!!!  Way to go, S !!!!  I don't know how common it is to get all correct.  However, this morning, on the way home, Craig said that he ran into one of our college friends this morning and he told Craig that he'd heard about S's achievement.  I saw our friend in the middle of the competition, but not after.  So, either he walked by and heard us talking, or we are being discussed by "strangers". S also created a sculpture of the white horse and rider.  We did get that turned in on time.  However, we left early this morning so we won't know the results until tomorrow evening.  *Update* - S received a silver for her sculpture.  Excellent since this was her 1st year and we were unsure of the requirements, etc. ...

  In my life this week... What a busy week last week was.   We had lots and lots of adventures and a little bit of school work.  We spent Tuesday visiting friends in the next town.  They have a new little baby and she is precious.  The other two are also, they just aren't brand new!  The kids had fun playing inside and outside with the son.  There were adventures through the school room and then into the "forest" in the back and then back to the house again!  I enjoyed visiting with Glenda and Mendy!  What a  relaxing, refreshing, and uplifting day!  I so enjoy spending time with strong Christian homeschoolers.  It's nice to share ideas and solutions and just encourage one another. We spent the weekend at Cleburne State Park and at the Air Power Expo in Fort Worth.  The whole point to the SP was to test the trailer before our 10 day trip in a few months.  Unfortunately, it ended up being a test of the Durango...

In my life this week... It's been a fairly quiet week.  We still spent some more time recovering and not playing outside.  I do have several that had fevers and coughs.  We are down to slighly stuffy noses and coughs.  At this point, I'm thinking we are headed into allergies instead of colds.  For myself, I have stuffy ears and a little bit of a stuffy nose.  I'm taking cold medicine - it seems to work well.  I don't like taking allergy medicine because it's too strong - it dries me out, no matter how much water I drink.  I might look into taking a child's dose - maybe get rid of the allergy symptoms without all the side affects.  Any thoughts? We spent Saturday at the closest weekend Trade Days (remember last week was 1st Monday, now it's 2nd Monday Trade Days).  Still no kiln.  I did get some good deals on honey and several geography school books and 2 large boxes worth of 3 ring binders.  I'm pretty sure I won't...

I, as many others, have been looking for ways to reduce our spending.  One blog I follow is Frugal Hacks .  Several of their recent posts have been about hinderance to frugality.  Today, I found one of my hinderances! We went to Walmart to get a few quick things - milk, toilet paper, and the minimum amount of fruit and vegetables that will be tolerated by the masses.  The minimum is usually apples, oranges and bananas.   Well, we had salad for dinner!  And will have Chinese with squash and zuchini tomorrow and we'll have fresh green beans sometime this week.  WHY? Well, there is this very cute little boy I know who HATES vegetables and claims to only eat chicken nuggets!  This little boy was walking the produce section and picked out the green beans (he can't read yet) and said he wanted some.  I did a double take and told him what they were and asked if he really would eat them.  Yes, of course!  So, we added fresh gr...

A's favorite thing to eat is honeydew melons.  So, she decided she wanted to plant some.  The problem - too many trees and, of all things, you can't buy honeydew seeds.  Unbelieveable! To combat the problem of sunlight, we have planted things in pots and move them as the year goes along.  Doing this, we have managed to get 8 lemons off a lemon tree and 3 figs.  I'm hoping the orange tree will produce something too this year.  So, along those lines, we decided to plant any plants we get in a pot. The 2nd problem - where do we find seeds?  The middle of a honeydew melon, of course!  So, we started some seeds several weeks ago and now have a nice little crop of seedlings!  We planted them in 2 pots this morning and will taken them out when the weather warms up again.  

In my life this week... It's been 2 weeks since my last journal update.  It's been a crazy two weeks.  We had 2 birthdays and an ER visit.   This immediate past week, the weather was cooler - perfect for staying inside!  Overall, a crazy 2 weeks.  We started out the 2 weeks with a Saturday dinner in the next town for my birthday and, of course, a visit to Hobby Lobby!  Then, we had a fairly normal week; just busy with school.  On the next Saturday, we spent the day cleaning up the yard and Craig worked some more on the playhouse.  Sunday was the changing point - and we didn't go anywhere, except the dr's and piano lessons.  We did spent this past Saturday at the nearest 1st Monday Trade Days.  We found a great book on military planes for a quarter and 1/2 of us got a little bit of sun.  The rest inherited my great-grandfather's skin type - tan and tan and tan in the sun!
