Because the RV broke, we decided to leave OK a day early, to make sure we could make it home by Monday, just in case we ran into problems with the slide again.  Everything went smoothly, after we left OK, where the roads have a slightly rivet in the road every 50 feet or so.   As soon as the thumping and bumping stopped, a little voice from the back yells "We're finally back in TX!" - even before we saw the welcome sign. The one planned stopped on the way home was to visit with Mamaw - we just went a day early.  Because we had more time this visit, the kids were able to visit her horses.   And a pretty flower I liked while walking the pasture.

My children should be happy to know that in the midst of problems and catastrophes, my first thought it NOT to reach for the camera.  Otherwise, I'd have a picture to show you exactly what happened.  Instead, I can show you the trouble area and what we did to fix it. One thing we noticed in our "troubles" is that we weren't in TX when it happened.  There were 3 other RV's in the immediate area and the park ranger drove by as did several other people while we were work hard at pushing the slide back in.  Imagine a 15 yr old, a 13 yr old, and an 11 yr old holding up the read end of an RV while a 9 yr old is running around looking for tools and a 6 yr old and a 4 yr old are singing funny songs at the campground picnic table.  No one!  and I mean No one!  stopped to help - they all looked on and stared - but NO ONE offered to help!  I've always been told that OK is just an extension of TX with a different governor.  Guess what!  It's NOT! ...

We were all enjoying a relaxing afternoon at our campsite while waiting for the sun to go down when Craig noticed that the rear slide of our RV was leaning instead of level so......  we decided to pull it in slightly to see if it would level off and ...... the entire slide fell.  The chain mechanism that holds the slide in place broke.  The wood holding the entire assembly rotted. What do you do out in the middle of the OK panhandle where the nearest RV dealer is 3 hours behind you or 4 hours in front of you?  You go the direction you've never been before - Head west from OK into NM (because the roads straight north are unpaved) and drive past Capulin Volcano. And then head across NM to Raton Pass and Elk Country.  Good bye New Mexico..... ...... Hello Colorado.... In the OK panhandle, just across the little road from the highest point in OK, there are a set of dinosaur tracks.  They are not marked on the road so it was hard to find at first because our definition of a bridge is slightly different than the reviewers (online list of things to do in OK) definition of a bridge. They are located in the dry river bed of the Cimmaron River.  Our speculation is that they were formed when the dinosaurs were running away from the volcanoes in the area, they stepped in a heavy build up of ash and then it rained before the wind could blow the tracks away, and the ash acted just like concrete and hardened, forming the fossils. This one is my favorite of the day - contemplating the past and the future.  It wasn't long after this that he mentioned the newest career possibility - Volcano-logy.
