Always exciting to visit is the historic Fort Davis.  This year, the new visitors center was finished so we were able to tour the museum..... One new addition is a telegraph and signal area where the kids can send messages over a telegraph using Morse code and they can wave signal flags.   This year, N  was old enough to participate in the jr ranger program.  The others have participated in previous years and they enjoyed helping N  look for and find all the required items. This year, we decided to check the weather during the day and visit the Desert Center during the coolest day instead of the hottest..... the result?  We spent more time hiking.  Above is the Queen Victoria Agave - this is my favorite cactus! Taking pictures of each other taking pictures!  All the pictures with a date were taken by S  and the others were by me. She's getting pretty good at this picture taking thing. The colorful rocks are located in the mining section.  They have a viewing box that will let you look at what miners would have seen in the mines.  The florescent colors are the flash reflecting off the natural colors of minerals.   Hiking around the butterfly trail.  We've only ever made it to the butterfly garden before, never around the trail.     Enjoying the smells of the desert center.  This is the prettiest we've ever seen the desert center. ...
