Craig is returning to school for a masters degree in engineering.  Because of this, we don't have many free weekends to travel (did you notice no Star Party post this year?).  So, when Craig finished his project work early, we took advantage of the Memorial Holiday to visit with my parents. This trip, the kids were able to visit with the horses and cousins and to get a few things from Nonie's house. First we visited with the new horse and everyone petted Classy - my horse when I was younger. Then, we played with cousins out front and chased Sadie, Grammie's dog around the yard.  Mamaw's yard includes a climbing thing and a wooden truck and a sandbox.  Lots of fun to be had by all. Then we visited the horses again.  This time, the brushes were gotten out and everyone groomed a horse or pony.  N even got to sit on a few of them.  The pony was OK, the bigger ones were scary!! The end of April also brought with it the last birthday for our family's birthday season.  This time, we had a small party.  Theme: Hello Kitty Happy Birthday Miss C This purse was from Grammie and her caregiver.  It's made from plastic bags.  Both H and C have one now and I don't think they've been left at home in the last month.  We LOVE them!!!   The most exciting part for Z ? Playing with the party hats.  Do you know how many different ways you can wear one?

We're a little behind in posting our science results and other activities.  All I can say is...it's been a busy spring. Plant Project Summary: the control lived, the outdoor plant lived, and the grow bulb lived.  The plant we were talking to was a victim of little brother - he threw it on the floor and most of the dirt had to be vacuumed up and what remained wasn't enough for the little flower to survive.  The in darkness plant lived about 2 weeks and the no water plant died by the end of week 1. Which one grew the most?  the grow bulb.  Poor plants which didn't survive.  The light experiment on the left.  The no water on the right.   Control:  started at 4 to 4.5 inches.  After 1 month, 4.5 to 5 inches.  Growth = .5 inches Grow bulb plant: started out at 4.5 inches.  Ended at 6.5 inches.  Growth = 2 inches. The aquarium is doing great! The plants are thriving and all the toxins appear to be gone.  We still have one fish and plan to add two more next time we visit PetsMart. To continue our dog saga....... (You can read the first part here http://kerrchristianacademy.blogspot.com/2013/03/skippy.html) Skippy spent 3 weeks at our house.  He loved the girls, liked to give Max a hard time, loved to bark at anything and everything and thought Tux, the cat, was great fun to torture.  Unfortunately, he also to a decidedly dislike to Craig.  This dislike started out with growling every time Craig walked into the room.  By the end of the 1st weekend, Skippy was running at Craig and trying to attack his feet.  It ended up with Skippy biting Craig on the hand and hanging on.  Craig lifted his hand up and Skippy stayed attached.  We called the vet, whom we had visited the week before, and were told that there shouldn't be any problems with rabies and to just w...

Lesson 6 of our Botany book has an experiment where you have a control plant and then your test plant.  The instructions said to test sun/no sun and water/no water.  Instead of buying 12 plants and killing 6 of them, we modified the experiment a little bit and only bought 6 plants. We have a control plant which gets water and sun in our sunniest inside window.    Then we have our "test"plants: #1: sun with no water #2: sun and water and extra carbon dioxide in the form of talking by the girls.  For this one, the girls take turns talking, reading, singing, or reciting to the plant.  In this test, we are trying to determine if talking to a plant will make it grow better.  #3: water and a grow bulb during the daylight hours (we turn it off at night) #4: water and no sun #5: we planted #5 outside - nothing really to test except maybe inside care versus outside care - we really just needed a 6th plant ...
