In my life this week...
What a busy week last week was. We had lots and lots of adventures and a little bit of school work. We spent Tuesday visiting friends in the next town. They have a new little baby and she is precious. The other two are also, they just aren't brand new! The kids had fun playing inside and outside with the son. There were adventures through the school room and then into the "forest" in the back and then back to the house again! I enjoyed visiting with Glenda and Mendy! What a relaxing, refreshing, and uplifting day! I so enjoy spending time with strong Christian homeschoolers. It's nice to share ideas and solutions and just encourage one another.
We spent the weekend at Cleburne State Park and at the Air Power Expo in Fort Worth. The whole point to the SP was to test the trailer before our 10 day trip in a few months. Unfortunately, it ended up being a test of the Durango instead! Still not sure what we'll need to fix the car - it came close to overheating several times (we did sneak a visit to Half Priced Books on one break) and finally was starting to smoke as we backed into the drive way. Hoping it's just a thermostat; afraid it's a whole radiator.
The Air show was awesome for the most part! It was smaller than Alliance and getting into park was way easier! The pilots of the planes were extremely nice! We waited over 30 minutes in a line of 5 families to visit with the pilot of a Hornet. He was so nice! Both pilots (there was one at the cockpit and one on the ground) asked the kids if they had questions and then patiently waiting while they thought of some and then explained, for the most part, what things were. Z did ask why the planes had to have wings and the pilot laughed and told him that would involved an aerodynamics class that Z isn't quite ready for. The simple answer - to make the plane fly. We also visited a Raptor and walked through - even the stroller - a huge cargo plane. Yes, I do have pictures. Most are on the 35mm camera, because quite frankly, the digital just isn't up to the task of taking pictures of planes designed to defeat radar! So, I'll have another longer post when those are developed! We ended the airshow by watching the Blue Angels! Unfortunately, at this point, the boy was pretty tired and the food was more expensive than Alliance, which we didn't expect. So, he didn't enjoy it as much as last time. However, he still wants to be a Blue Angel pilot! Then, the traffic, although a much smaller airshow, was a wreck getting out! We waiting over an hour in the car for it to finally start moving! I can say we enjoyed the visit from several days out. If you had asked me Saturday evening, the answer would have been different. This was the 1st time the car started to overheat. Fortunately, the wind was blowing and the temperatures were low, so it was a nice wait with the windows down.
The Cleburne SP is a very nice place. It's one on our list of we need to come back to. The Granbury St. church of Christ was a very welcoming group and they filled their church building. We arrive at 5 after and we couldn't find a place for all of us to sit together. I realize we are a rather large family. However, we've been in several congregations where we could each have our own pews. It's a great sign that we couldn't sit together!
In our homeschool this week...
This week, the basics were done. We've slacked off a little on some of the subjects to give the girls a chance to study for Bible Bowl coming up. This year, the subject is Revelation and it's just a little harder for the younger group to understand. So, we are spending a little more time on it.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
I think I've covered most of this already. We went to visit Mendy and Glenda and had a wonderful time! We again, went to the library and then piano lessons. Can't forget Wednesday evening Bible Class and finally our weekend on the west side of DFW.
My favorite thing this week was...
It's always great fun to see and hear the 1st real airshow for little ones. Z has been to several and he remembers the planes and seeing the Blue Angels before. H doesn't! This is what I would call her 1st real airshow and she LOVED it - maybe even more than Z! She had taken a nap and was well rested when the main attraction showed up! I love the excitement of watching a little one see their first Blue Angel performance!
What's working/not working for us...
This week, we went to the library before piano lessons. That seemed to work well. We'll try this week and see how it goes.
