Our original plan was to visit the space center on Friday to avoid the weekend crowds and then hit the Texas on our way out of town.  However, after reviewing the weather, we decided to do the outside things while it was nice and hit the inside things during the cold and potentially rainy days. Our 1st stop of the day was at the Battleship Texas . From the back of the ship, looking toward the San Jacinto Monument. Photographs inside the San Jacinto monument isn't allowed and the outside pictures didn't turn out well.  We did tour the museum and enjoyed looking at artifacts from the battle and from TX Independence.  We did find some interesting names on the list of persons who were ordered to stay in the wounded camp instead of accompanying Sam Houston the San Jacinto - a William Boyles and a William Davis.  We know our ancestor who was in TX about the time was Noah Boyles, could William have been a brother?  Was Wil...

Our previous home was in the Houston area.  It's been 7 years since we've lived there and we've been back to visit once, for a friends wedding.  4 years ago, I was really starting to miss the Gulf area and our annual trip to Galveston.  So, we planned what to do and how long to stay and were at the point of booking a trip, which was to include renting a house, when we decided it was just a little more than we really wanted to spend on a trip at the moment.  This was also before we purchased our RV.  Fortunate for us that we cancelled, because a little storm called "Ike" decided to visit Galveston, the exact week we had planned to go.  Since then, I've jokingly told my Houston area friends that they really don't want us planning a trip. Over the last few years, we've traveled a little and have visited the Razorback submarine in Little Rock, the USS Alabama, the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, and the USS Lexington.  We are running out of TX local place...

Each year, the Texas state fair organizers offer free tickets to school age children - public and private.  The tickets are only valid on Thursday's.  Armed with our 4 free student tickets, 1 free teacher ticket, and 2 bottles of Coca-Cola (Thursday is also Coke day where you can get in for $6 with an empty coke bottle), we headed out early for the state fair.  Our plan was to stop at JoAnn's for the supplies I needed for cake decorating class.  Half way to town, we received a call from our realtor that someone wanted to look at our house this afternoon.  So we turned around and headed back home to make the house presentable.  As everyone who's every sold a house while living it knows, normal morning cleanings don't pass the inspection of potential buyers.  We couldn't reschedule our state fair trip as Craig had already taken the day off, piano lessons were already rescheduled, and it was the last week for the Marine Drum and Bugle Corp.  So, ...

Our October field trips continue with the Alliance Airshow.  This year, the airshow was much earlier in October and thus it was much colder! (Indian summer has visited for the last few)  Usually, we wear shorts.  This year, it was jackets!  We started our visit off with a bomb robot.  This year (probably because it was cold so there were less people), the display people were more friendlier and more willing to "play".   Z was allowed to climb onto the robot and examine in great detail how the parts fit together. Here, the clan is taking N aboard his 1st cargo carrier at his 1st airshow! He didn't really seem to enjoy it too much.  Even his love of cold air didn't help much.  I think the wind got the best of him and the suddenness of the airplanes.  He didn't mind the noise as long as he had warning.   H spent most of the afternoon like this.  I think she really took a nap because just before we left, she ...
