Last night was a solar eclipse.  We elected to stay home instead of travel this eclipse so we weren't able to see the ring of fire, just a few "bites".  We were only able to see it for about 30 minutes so instead of carrying the telescope out we just took the solar filter.  Because we have so many trees, we headed down the road to the highest and safest location we could find - our local bank's parking lot.  The traffic light was a first an annoyance in my pictures.  However, I later figured out that it was perfect for focusing the camera as it wouldn't focus on the sun.

Our last birthday of the season is C's .  She received her 1st present from Mamaw on our way home from the Star Party - a guitar!!  Our next musical experiment begins..... The cake she wanted was a Treasure Buddy cake - so we made a puppy face. Ready to open her presents from the family. Clay ring from Z . A "rock" pony. C has developed a love for Shelby 427 Cobra's.  Can't say I blame her.  They are the coolest car ever!  A girl after Mama's own heart!

It's becoming a tradition - going to west TX for a week to view the stars.  This year, we started the weekend off with a violin workshop. We quickly drove to my mom's house to drop off Max and got a very early start the next morning for our 10 hour drive.  We reach the Prude Ranch about 4:30 - plenty of time to get registered, get the RV setup, and claim a good observing spot. Our activities for the week included a trip to the Chihuahuan Desert Center, McDonald Observatory, the Museum of the Big Bend, and a day trip to Marfa where we discovered a Dairy Queen!   Climbing the rocks at the lookout at the desert center  Walking the botanical paths  Queen Victorian Agave   Z's waited all year for this chance.  As soon as we lined up on the observing floor, he asked if he could move the telescope.  Think we've been here before?   S moving the telescope.   A moving the telescope.   C moving the dom...

This past week has been very busy for us.  Z's  5th birthday was this week.  We had chocolate cupcakes, chocolate chip icing, and chocolate ice cream.  He received a stuffed Lightning McQueen to match his Mater.  He also received a Spiderman metal lunch-box type toolbox.  He filled it with cars to take on our trip. We left Friday morning for our whirlwind weekend.  We dropped the travel trailer off at Holiday World to have the bearings repacked.  Then, we headed to Mamaw's house to pick her and my sister up so we could all ride together to the wedding in Victoria.  We stopped at Fry's to get Z another birthday present (Wii Cars game) and Craig some telescope cart parts.  Mamaw got off work at 4:00 and we left her house about 4:30.  We headed toward Victoria via Stephenville and Lampasas.  We arrived in Cuero at midnight and found the 1st available motel with vacancy. N did fairly well for his 1st long car trip....
