Burr Oak, Iowa - a town filled with Ingall's history, although it's not found in the Little House book collection. The time the Ingall's spent in Walnut Grove was broken into 2 time frames. In between those 2 times, the Ingall's moved to Burr Oak to help their friends run a hotel - the Master's Hotel.
The Steadman's were the owners of Master's hotel when the Ingall's worked and lived there.
We even were allowed to try writing with a slate pencil. It's not as easy as chalk and doesn't show up as well. It does, however, make a finer line and allows more to be written on a slate, than chalk.
The Starr's were well to do people in town and once offered to adopt Laura.
Mr. Reed was the principal and teacher at the school Laura attended. Mr. Bent, a native of Burr Oak, founded the company that manufactured the pump organ currently in the museum.
We again found a pump organ and they one who wanted were encourage to play, so I recorded this time....
Mary attended blind school in Vinton, Iowa, about 2 hours, almost directly south of Burr Oak.
The hotel itself consisted of 3 room upstairs, the bar room (where the stove is), and a sitting room for the guests (where the organ is).
Downstairs, in the restaurant area, some of the rafters were exposed showing hand hewn beams. Beautiful craftsmanship!
The stair corners are interesting and something I might like to have.
The bedroom downstairs was where the Ingall's lived for a while. After a time, they moved into top of the store next door, and then down the road before leaving Burr Oak for Walnut Grove again.

We arrived a few minutes past when the last tour started. The museum staff as wonderfully kind and gave us a tour anyway! Since we had visited almost all the other sites, we were able to skip the film, which saved some time too.
One very interesting thing we discovered in Burr Oak - A is the same height as Laura was and I'm almost the same height as Almanzo.
In the hotel, we found a stove and foot irons - very heavy!
