Scheduling?

A friend passed along "Managers of their Homes" by the Maxwell's.  It's an interesting read.

One thing I found in their book that I have picked up on and modified to meet our needs is scheduling the same lunches for every day of the week.  For example, Monday is Mac and Cheese day - every Monday.  Tuesday is Grilled Cheese and Quesadilla day.  etc....

We've taken it several steps further and added breakfast to the list and have assigned themes for dinner.  We still have some blanks and tweeking to do.  Here's what we have so far.......

Monday:
Breakfast - cereal
Lunch - Mac and Cheese
Dinner - Mexican

Tuesday:
Breakfast - Muffins
Lunch - Mac and Cheese
Dinner - Italian

Wednesday:
Breakfast - Coffee Bread/Sweet Bread
Lunch - Chicken nuggest and French Fries
Dinner - American

Thursday:
Breakfast - Waffles
Lunch - Frozen Pizza
Dinner - Chinese

Friday:
Breakfast -

Lunch -
Dinner - Seafood

Saturday:
Breakfast - Pancakes/Bacon and Eggs (Dad's treat)
Lunch - Wildcard
Dinner - Wildcard

Sunday:
Breakfast - Cinnamon Rolls
Lunch - crockpot
Dinner - leftovers

Any suggestions?  Any recipes you want to share? So far, the kids are excited about the themed dinner nights - they've even dressed for them.  Lunch has gone smoother than expected.  I think knowing that their favorite food is coming has eliminated some fussing.  The hardest part about breakfast is waiting for the oven - they seem to be extremely hungry in the mornings!

We have used that book for years, and I print a windows calendar every month with the weekly lunch menu, weekly breakfast menu, and daily supper menu. It really helps with grocery shopping, budgeting, and cooking. Makes life so much easier. We also do the weekly chore charts, and run our school day in a flexible version of the MOTH schedule.

Mickey's mom always had a schedule for her meals. It made her grocery shopping and budgeting alot easier. Your menus look great, but how do you get your five fruits and vegetables in each day? You might try a fruit smoothie each morning in addition to what you're already serving. You may already have your fruits and veggies worked into your menus, I wasn't meaning to criticize. I think you're a super mom!:)

Thanks Glenda, Fruits and Veggies aren't a problem. If I'd let them, the girls would only eat vegetables for dinner/lunch. That's one of the requirements is to include vegetables with the meals. And, I think we keep walmart and brookshire's in business with out fruit consumption. I think 1/2 of our grocery bill is fresh veggies and fruits! Although a fruit smoothie sounds like a good, non-starch breakfast for me. I don't do well with starchy breakfasts.

Texas History Tour - Texas Independence - Washington on the Brazos

Because of all the construction on I35, it was recommended to us to travel across Central TX and use I45 instead.  So, on our trip down to San Antonio, we went north of College Station.  We decided on the way home, to go south of BCS and stop at one last history spot - Washington on the Brazos, where Texas Independence was declared.  (It's was also a nice distance from Goliad and a great stopping point for lunch) The original monument next to Independence Hall This state historic site also incorporates the etched windows.  Probably because of all the trees, these etched windows are easier to see.  We walked down the side streets of town and went down to the Brazos River.  There were lots of pretty flowers and some wild grapes along the trail. Our first glimpse of the Brazos River Here's the area where traders along the river would land and bring their cargo/passengers. Pecan tree that was here during the Texas Revolution We enjoyed the break from ridi...

Texas History Tour - Spanish influence - Mission San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo

After a late lunch, we decided to visit the middle mission - San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo .  It was the largest mission and the one that is most well preserved, being designed a work area for the WPA in the 1930's.  They have done a wonderful job of recreating ruins and painting original colors.  There were also some architecture dig sites this summer.  Unfortunately, being a Sunday, we didn't get to meet any of the student workers.  We did however, get to visit with the park rangers, who had just recently returned to work and the park store was open as well. Mission San Jose was founded in 1720 along the San Antonio River.  It came to be the largest mission on the area with roughly 300 Indians living on the grounds.   "it's a giant turtle with a hole in the back" It's really an outdoor oven. It's a very pretty mission setting. We also saw several wells and cisterns and lots of arches, angles, and other geometric shapes.  Love the c...

Weekly Journal - week 4

In my life this week... It's been a different sort of a week.  The weather has been nice and so we've spent alot of time outside and with the windows open.  It's also been a week of reprimands.  Everything this week has set someone off - be it birthday parties, homeschooling, weight loss, diabetes, vacation plans, job choices and locations, attending worship services, or disciplining our children.  What has been accomplished this week?  The car is now in tip top shape again.  Craig changed all the spark plugs several months ago and our check engine light kept coming back.  Finally visited the dealer and they fixed it with a $2.00 part.  I was very afraid it was going to be so much more.  We also have 2 new tires on the the front.  Now, just need that oil change and we'll be good to go for our next adventure! In our homeschool this week... This week has been a sort of Spring Break.  With it being the 1st nice all week ...
