In my life this week...
This week, we started off with a fun day by having some friends come over to play. While the kids played, I worked on some much need but often neglegiated chores - cleaning the windows and doors. We also had Craig's birthday this week - so we spent our holiday making a telescope cake and doing some extra cleaning - we've let the house get away from us a little bit. Then, we took Craig out for dinner at the nicest restaurant in town. We hoped to be done before worship time. Unfortunately, it would have been faster to drive to his favorite restaurant in the nearest town, 30 miles away, and eat and then come back. Crazy evening. However, Craig enjoyed it and that's what counts! We are also in the process of updating our garden with fresh flowers and mulch. Lots of outdoor time, in between rain storms.
In our homeschool this week...
We have been studying plants. The kids had fun being tree detectives and trying to discover what type of trees we have - some were pretty obvious as it's is still winter and they are pretty bare! The girls are also making great progress in math - while completing their assignment, they looked ahead and found the next assignment easy. I let them work ahead to only find later that it was 4 lessons later. Great progress and a great confidence builder. Also C picked up her phonics books and - on her own!! - read three more lessons! Guess she's ready to move at a faster pace. I'm glad she's excited about learning to read.
Places we're going and people we're seeing...
We intended to attend a pie party this week - however, it rained so we weren't able to get out. See....we do have 2 working cars. However, only one is water proof at the moment and it just so happens to be the one that holds more than two people in it. So, when it's forecasted to rain, Craig takes our car to work. When it's actually raining, it's too much trouble for him to walk out to the car - which is not in a garage - and come trade it out with us. Just doesn't work too well in a downpour. So, we weren't able to make the pie party. However, the picture in this morning's paper said there were over 50 pies!! Awesome!! And that there are plans for more pie parties. We'll plan on attending those.
My favorite thing this week was...
Cuddling on a cold morning with a warm, happy baby!
What's working/not working for us...
What's not working for us is having only 3 folders per person. Because of our massive decluttering so we can sell our house, I parred everything down to 1 math folder for the ones in math, 1 organizer folder, and 1 everything else folder. These folders are starting to get pretty full and we still have a few months left. On the upside, it's obvious we are getting things done this year!
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
The convience of homeschooling is wonderful! Today is a little cooler than the last week has been - so we cuddled a little longer in bed with a warm, soft 2 year old! What awesome memories and bonding time! Also, our state is once again considering the case of school funding and cutting the state budget. This is at least an 20 year old problem. I remember signing petitions in high school asking our representatives to "get it right!". There is talk of who should be cut and why. Well, when you homeschool - what teacher salery is there to cut? The non existant inflation has hit us as well. So we have a little less for curriculum, we have to buy used instead of new. That's life! I'm very glad today that I don't have to worry about my children's education suffering or the affects a larger classroom will have on my children's ability to learn. (This is all relative since I'm not sure the education being provided is a good as they get at home anyway).
